Room In The Inn

10 Years of Service

Room in the Inn Women & Children Summer Shelter program

As we continue to celebrate 10 years of service with Room in the Inn, Emmanuel UMC
is participating in the Women & Children Summer Shelter program (May – August
2024). Emmanuel’s host location is The Cottage at 2338 South Germantown Road
located across the street from GUMC main campus (same side of street as
Germantown Commissary).  The Cottage is a designated RITI facility provided
by Germantown United Methodist Church.
Emmanuel along with many other local congregations will be providing emergency
shelter and meals the 4th Saturday of each month (May-August) for women and
children during the "summer shelter program.   If you’re looking for a place to make a
difference in people’s lives and our community, please join us in providing Holy
Hospitality to our unsheltered neighbors.
We will be hosting 15 guests – women & children the 4th Saturday of each month.
Our host dates are: May 25, June 22, July 27, and August 24.   Please contact Jackie
Spear at  901-754-6548 church, 901-292-3386 cell or jspear@emmanuelmemphis.org if
you have any questions.
Thank you so much to everyone for signing up to volunteer at Emmanuel’s Room in the
Inn. We appreciate you all so much!

Other Ways to Help:

Monetary donations are gratefully accepted!

If you have contacts in the corporate world, retail, and/or food services areas, RITI has a donation letter for soliciting donations available in the church office.  Please contact Jackie at jspear@emmanuelmemphis.org for more information.

Reasons for Room In the Inn:

– 37,000 homeless people die each year.
– Most die due to complications arising from inadequate shelter.
– Many freeze to death each winter.
– Churches are empty and warm every night.
– We’re trying to change this…

Here’s a great article by the author, Ann Patchett, about the founder of Room in the Inn, Charlie Strobel.
