We offer many opportunities for adults to find a place to connect at Emmanuel.
Our Spring 2019 schedule for Adult Education and Spiritual Formation includes Bible Studies, Prayer Groups, and other Small Groups.
Sunday 4-5 pm will be taught by Wayne Hamm
The Nativity of the Trinity: a study of Gospel Parallels Review and the Seven Ecumenical Councils
All are welcome to join this in depth study of how we came to be the church. You will learn the history of the Christian church.
Sunday 5-6:30 pm will be taught by Rev. Wade Cox and Sue Stevens
Disciple Fast Track: Bible study for busy lives
A 24 week study of the Old and New Testaments. There is a DVD component and study guide. The Disciple series has abbreviated the original Disciple study to this new format. Participants will read 3-5 chapters of the Bible a day with minimal homework each day. The class is limited to 12 participants.

January 29-March 26 “Believing Jesus: a Journey through the Book of Acts” by Lisa Harper
This is an 8 week video-based study on the revolutionary steps of the early Christians in Acts. The early believers did not have much of a road map to follow after Jesus ascended to heaven, but the Holy Spirit catapulted them forward with so much power, grace, and authority that they dramatically impacted the world. The early believers were willing to risk everything to follow Jesus.”
April 2-May 14 “Set Apart: Holy Habits of Prophets and Kings” by Rev. Jessica LaGrone
This is a 6 week study focusing on 1 and 2 Kings examining the holy habits of a cast of prophets and kings as they tried to follow God and carry out their calling on earth. Each week we’ll explore the story of one of these intriguing men of God, learn about his specific spiritual discipline and explore how these timeless spiritual practices can help you fulfill God’s purpose for your life today.

This is a study for women and men. New members are always welcome to join this on-going class.

Following the Men’s Prayer Breakfast, Wayne Hamm will teach “The Primitive Church: The early church to the dawn of the Reformation: Rediscovering the church Fathers, who they were and how they changed the church.”

January 9-February 6 “Anxious for Nothing: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World.”
In this 5-session video Bible study, Max Lucado explores God’s promises in Philippians 4:4-8 and shows that while anxiety is part of life, it doesn’t have to dominate life. As you follow God’s prescriptions for worry-celebrate God’s goodness, ask for help, leave your concerns with God, meditate on good things—you’ll experience God’s peace. You can stop letting anxiety rule your day and find true calm and contentment in Christ.

February 13-March 13 “A Crazy, Holy Grace: the Healing Power of pain and memory” by Frederick Buechner.
In this 4 week study, Buechner addresses pain and healing. Each of us experiences pain. Though time really does help to heal wounds, nothing can erase our memories. In this study, Buechner you’ll learn about the healing power of memory and about how to use past goodnesses and graces from God to close old wounds. In this study, you’ll find what Buechner realizes…that the God who might seem so silent is ever near.

March 20-May 8 “Not A Fan: Becoming a Completely Committed Follower of Jesus” by Kyle Idleman.
In this 7 week study, you’ll be challenged to consider what it really means to call yourself a Christian. With a direct frankness that you’re not likely to hear in Sunday school class, the author invites you to take an honest look at your relationship with Jesus. His call to follow may seem radical to us, but Jesus desires it for every believer.”
